![]() ![]() These ATCs are highly analytical yet never sound clinical or passionless, and are transparent to the original recording and system electronics. Prince’s vocals are handled in a crisp and articulate manner, but they also lack nothing in terms of body or natural warmth. The bass kicks hard while the drum machines attack with determination. They deliver the song’s relentless rhythmic momentum with enthusiasm. Moving onto Prince’s Love shows that these boxes like to party too. Things stay stable even as the piece’s complexity increases. We also like the SCM19s’ ability to render a large-scale soundstage and populate it with well-focused instruments. There’s an impressive degree of composure here, the monitors refusing to compress or harden up even when pushed hard. These ATCs have no trouble delivering the piece’s crescendos with power, even at very high volume levels. Also any recommendations in the 2k to 2500 price range. I am looking for pros and cons from people who have heard either of the three. 2) After 1 year I had the occasion to put my hands on a very nice pair of ATC 50 Anniversary Edition Actives.Beautifully stunning. I realize most have not heard all three speakers. I am partial to dynaudio and have seen a new dealer pair for sale online at a decent discount. Those dynamic skills come into even sharper focus when we play Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. I mainly listen to classic rock on vinyl. I owned the ATC SCM11 v2 and Harbeth Compact 7ES3 at the same time and preferred the Harbeths. A small floor stander - Spendor A2's - classic British sound - the A2's would sound great with your amp. Yes, the Revels are more, but they had a bigger soundstage to me and less rolled off on the highs, compared to ATC (and I do like British speakers). Has anyone tried the Roksan Darius standmount ? They get a good write up too.Twin binding posts allow biamping or biwiring if required. Well, I liked my Revel M126Be's compared to the ATC's - when I was shopping. ![]() I suppose the Reference 1 is close to that, more so than the R300, and I am wondering how the R3 might compare. I am planning to replace my existing floorstand speaker (Ruark Prologue II) with bookself speaker as my listening area is small (arround 10x12 feet) and I found the treble is sharp and the sound become booming when I turn to the volume to medium level. I wondered why KEF have never made a larger version of the LS50's or a three way version using the same cabinet techniques. Perhaps more importantand I keep making a point of this because I think it's both. The Aerial 5B measures 13' high by 7.9' wide by 10.8' deep, displaces 1109 in 3, and weighs 22 lbs. Feels like using an acoustic guitar instead of an electric. It may give away a little detail to the others but makes up for it with bags and bags of character and musicality. Out of all of the combinations, the best - by far - for my ears was the AudioNote set up. I liked the LS50's a lot but they were too inconsistent, and I've almost come to the conclusion that what i'd like is a pair of LS50's and Focal Aria 906's side by side and flick between the two depending on what i'm listening to ! I've just bought some Partington Dreadnought stands (which i'll probably use on only one side as two is a squeeze) to try as my existing stands are not that good. The ATC SCM 11's cabinet measures 15' high by 8.3' wide by 9.8' deep, displaces 1220 in3, and weighs 17.6 lbs. Audio Note AN-K with Audio Note Oto Phono SE. I think I've been doing the same thing as you further down the food chain with standmount speakers, and have tried quite a few ! I think my room size / set up wouldn't justify the cost of Dynaudio Special 40's but i did try them briefly in a demo and they sounded very good. Will be interesting for me to do a comparison at some point i think, but amazingly there are now fewer dealers that sell ATC for some strange reason.Ĭlick to expand.Hi, Yes i have owned the LS50's and I've seen your posts on your speaker quest. Interestingly What Hi Fi has just give these a five star review, and given them their 2018 Award, ousting the very impressive ATC SCM11's ! Should be good then. Kef have now released the successor to the R300 - the R3, which apparently offers trickle down design from their Reference series, and features similar dual concentric design to the LS50 with a bass driver too. I can understand why other people love the Kef LS50's and they are a modern classic i think. Part of this i think was down to the fact that one speaker was on a shelf and one on a stand (that particular future upgrade will be expensive, requiring a new house!), and the limited lower bass capability. Eventually I preferred the warmer meatier sound of my Focal Aria 905's. The problem was that they tended to put a spotlight on some bits of a song with a powerful and detailed sound, but other bits were recessed and distant. Initially i didn't like them at all, but after a bit more running in I suddenly found them to be fantastic with some kinds of music. I have recently bought and sold a pair of Kef LS50's and found them to be very hit and miss. ![]()
